Shop online safely
Internet purchases are increasingly common in our day today. In CIS Sierra we know it well. Who has not heard about Amazon or eBay? It is no longer only in large sites like the previous ones that offer online shopping. Increasingly, small businesses are taking advantage to open their own online stores.
Buying online is very useful for us. Online shopping allows us to find hard-to-buy products in our city. Also, it is more comfortable receiving products at home. Nowadays you can buy everything on the Internet. From clothes, with the possibility to return them easily if we do not like them, to exotic spices from the other side of the world.
This is why from the Mossos and CIS Sierra we give you some tips to adapt your security to the World Wide Web:
Keep the card at the time of payment to avoid fraudulent use.
Especially in case of being in public places during the purchase try not to show too much the card to avoid data theft. Also, search engines like Google, allow you to save the card data for future purchases. It is not advisable to use this option. Also, try to always enter the data again if you buy somewhere repeatedly instead of saving the data.
Use a payment method without a card for the Internet.
Some examples are Paypal or Stripe. With these free applications, you create an account where you transfer money from your card. When paying, the fund available in the application is used without having to use the card data.
Choose trusted online stores
Before buying, do an investigation on the website. Analyze how much information sellers offer, see if the photos look fake, check if contact forms or the seller's address are available. These are some of the signs that can help you distinguish the veracity of a page. Finally, pay attention to your intuition. If you do not think it's safe, do not buy.
Make sure the page is safe
To know if a site meets the security requirements, go to the web address where it will indicate it with "https" or with a padlock. If so, it means that the page complies with Google's data processing and encryption requirements. In these pages, it is more difficult for them to suffer data theft.
Use strong passwords
It is advisable to use long passwords of 8 characters or more, including both uppercase or lowercase letters, numbers and symbols. It is also advised that you use different passwords for each site where they request it.
Avoid open and public Wi-Fi networks
It is very important that during shopping you use a private WIFI or internet network. Being in a public or open network, especially when you are not sure of who the provider is, it can be dangerous since you may be the victim of the theft of personal data or the IP of your computer, having full access to your device.
